International Day of the Girl Child

October 11th, 2016 | News

On this International Day of the Girl Child, the White House has used the opportunity to take stock of the Obama Administration’s progress in girls’ education, including Let Girls Learn, an initiative that employs a whole-of-government approach to help adolescent girls around the world get a high-quality education so that they can realize their potential.

The White House press release says, “As we look toward the future, it is clear that educating girls is among the most strategic and effective investments we can make to achieve our foreign policy and sustainable development goals, which is why the President and First Lady launched Let Girls Learn in March 2015.”

The press release also highlights key initiatives, including DREAMS, an initiative dedicated to helping adolescent girls and young women become Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe Women, and the Let Girls Learn Challenge Funds. World Education is helping improve girls’ agency through DREAMS programs in Mozambique, Swaziland, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The White House statement cites World Education as the apparent awardee for Let Girls Learn programming in Tanzania.
