Why I Support World Education: Elizabeth’s Story

December 9th, 2015 | Blogs

Elizabeth and Nick are passionate supporters of education who have been traveling from New Zealand to Myanmar since February, raising awareness and funds for World Education along the way.

17,015 kilometers, 239 days, and 8 countries later….

“For Nick and me, this journey is about truly seeing other countries and cultures. During our travels, we visited World Education program sites in Timor-Leste, Indonesia, and Thailand. What has struck me the most is the way World Education builds on a sense of community, providing training and employment opportunities for local people to create sustainable and lasting programs.

We have seen first-hand the transformative power of education
. We invite you to join us in supporting the important work that World Education is doing across the globe. I am proud to introduce you to just two of the many admirable people I’ve met through World Education in my travels:

Marta runs a motorbike shop in Timor-Leste. She has seven children and has never attended school. She learned reading, writing, and basic math through World Education’s program. She uses these skills to monitor her costs and profits, manage accounts, and make financial decisions. Marta’s home life has improved, not only from increased profits at her shop but because she is applying the same lessons to household cash management and is using the money she brings home more efficiently.

At age 18, Ucok has had to drop out of school several times to help support his family. Luckily for him, World Education’s program in Indonesia helps children and young adults like Ucok resume education. These days, Ucok, who loves English and playing guitar, is studying for his final exams so that he can go to college and become an English translator.

You don’t need to a suitcase and passport to support World Education. We hope you will consider making a donation to help people like Marta and Ucok improve the quality of their lives through World Education’s programs. Please make a donation today, or enroll in their monthly giving program to provide lasting support for World Education’s work improving education for those who need it most.”

Sincerely,
